How we got here
It began with eleven people who asked him to come back.
Marcus spent five years doing finish work on new construction and disliked almost all of it. Everything was hidden before it could be checked, nothing was tested twice, and the certificate was always somebody else’s problem. He left in 2006 with a second-hand van and a list of eleven customers who had asked him to come back and do the rest of their house.
The business grew the way that list did — one referral at a time. We have never advertised for residential work and we have never taken a job we could not finish properly. There are nine of us now, four vans, and those first eleven customers are still on the books.
The part that has not changed is the part that matters. The electrician who quotes your job is the electrician who does your job, and if something goes wrong two years later you get that same person on the phone.
“If I would not put it in my own house, it does not go in yours. That has been the whole business plan for twenty years.”
Marcus Bennett, founder
How we work
Four things we decided early and never revisited.
Small enough to care, big enough to turn up
Nine electricians and four vans. Large enough that somebody is always available for an emergency, small enough that you are not a ticket number in a line.
Trained here, staying here
Every electrician on the team either completed their apprenticeship with us or spent two years riding our vans before working unsupervised. Nobody is subcontracted in for the day.
We say no to work we shouldn’t take
If a job needs a specialist, a structural engineer, or frankly somebody cheaper, we say so and point you at one. Turning down the wrong job is how we keep the right ones.
The paperwork is part of the job
Certificates, test readings, permit filings and photographs go out the same week the work finishes — not six months later after three phone calls.
Who you’ll meet
The four people who will handle your job.
Whoever picks up the phone, one of these four is behind the work.
